The Lab is excited to open its doors this weekend for the first Open House of 2012! Come and play for free, say ‘Hello’ to our staff, and cuddle any of the resident pets. The slime bar will be open, and we will be giving away goodies like spy pens and color-changing cups.

Enrollment for this year’s Spring Break Camp Program: Animals-LIVE! begins at 9:50am. This will be your first opportunity to sign up; enrollment is first-come, first-served. We will not be able to take reservations before Jan. 15 or “hold” any spots, as space is limited to thirty kids, and we want to be fair to all of our customers. This year’s camp will feature an outdoor classroom, daily snacks in the garden, time in the greenhouse and “The Great Worm Dig”. Camp is centered on life cycles, habitats and care for the critters with which we share the planet.

Everyone that signs up for Camp at the Open House will receive The Lab’s first ever t-shirt - you choose the design and color, too!

Yesterday I flew down to Houston to catch the International Quilt Show. It's a great resource for childrenswear designers. There are a ton of fabric vendors from around the world who show. I was shopping for fabrics for my Fall/Winter 2011 collection and gravitated towards all the amazing Japanese florals. So my palette for next fall is black, grey, cranberry, navy and pink-with a little black gingham thrown in. I was so inspired that I sketched out the whole collection this morning. I do wish I had time to quilt. I made one for Miette when I was on hospital bed rest. I totally owe one to Amelie. Good thing I am saving all my vintage fabric scraps (I have garbage bags full) for when I do get some free time

While I was in NYC attending FIT I was lucky to land an amazing shop girl gig at a store in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. I am going to date myself her by saying it was the first clothing shop in Billyburg. The owner was a woman named Seema, who designed and sewed most of the clothing in the shop. (sound familiar?) I worked a few hours a week in the shop and a few in her house cutting out her designs while she sewed them. As you can tell she was a great influence to me. I ended up owning the shop but that is a whole other story! Well, Seema is now the designer of a label called LiaMolly. I am totally obsessed with the children's line she creates for Anthropologie. How amazing are these designs?????

We were lucky enough to be invited to attend the Crafting Community in Palm Springs this weekend. It's the ultimate family getaway headed by crafter extraordinaire Karen Kimmel of Kimmel Kids. The weekend offers an easy oasis of crafting, community and imagination for kids and parents alike. We will be staying and crafting at The Ace Hotel. How cool! My girls our so excited! Steven will be teaching a few photography workshops and Small Magazine (me) will blogging from the event and posting all the children's artwork over here.
Aften will be holding down the fort over at the shop! I will post pictures when we return!

After many crazy weekends with anniversary parties, markets and the new issue of Small Mgazine we finally had a weekend with NOTHING to do. We had a bit of Friday night partying at the Dallas Museum of Art, the Farmers Market on Saturday (god I love that cup of corn with all the cheese and mayo) and just plain chilling in the backyard with some tunes and the chiminaya.
